School Council

At Newton Hill Community School we value the viewpoints of our pupils and we believe that their voice should be at the heart of our school community. Therefore, we feel it is fundamental for pupils to have control over particular aspects of school life in order to improve our school further.

Our School Council display is located outside the hall, with photographs of our current representatives.

What does a school council representative do?

Each year every class votes and elects two new representatives to represent their class at school council meetings. Their job is to collect the views of the children they represent and then to share these ideas at School Council meetings. These ideas will then be discussed and debated with their fellow representatives where they will then decide on how they can make these ideas happen.

What have we done so far?

Since our School Council started we have:

  • Raised money for Children in Need
  • Raised awareness of Christmas Jumper Day
  • Organised activities for Anti-bullying Week
  • Collected views about our school meals and met with a representative from our school meal provider
  • Asked pupils for ideas on what they would like to have as the House Treat at the end of each half term.
  • Supported with organising the House Treat for all pupils.
  • Offering a help desk during Mental Health Week.
  • Been part of the interview process for appointing new staff
  • Understanding their role as a representative.

Future Plans

Our future plans will include:

  • Continuing to raise awareness of charities and organise fund raising events.
